The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a couple of more days. But, one morning, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the town only to receive a lesson on honesty and the results of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
